Eric & Sara: Engaged

Eric & Sara’s story is one of luck and circumstance… and it couldn’t get any better! Get to know them and see their engagement photos below:

How did you two meet?

We met randomly in November 2012 as opponents in a kickball game at Tower Grove Park. I did not usually play in the league, but I came as a substitute to enjoy the weather on an unseasonably warm fall day. Eric was single-handedly destroying my team, so I started to talk a little smack to him. The competition got really serious on a close play at home plate when Eric tried to stretch a triple into a home run. He had to make an acrobatic dodge move as I kicked the ball as hard as I could at him to attempt the out (he ended up being called safe anyway)! After the game, I shared some cupcakes that I had made with his team to squash any hard feelings.

When did you know they were the one for you?

I knew right away- probably from the first date- that we had something special (and I definitely tried to play it cool so that I wouldn’t scare him away)! I was certain when I brought him to Columbus, Ohio for a friend’s wedding and dragged him around my hometown to introduce him to my family and all my friends.  Everything just felt right.  I knew that he was the one for me 🙂

What is one of your favorite dates you have been on?

Recently, we decided as a spur-of-the moment kind of thing to go out.  We made a really great dinner together at home and then went to a STLFC soccer game. I am definitely a creature of habit, and E is good about getting me out of my routine and reminding me to enjoy the little things in life. It was just a couple hours on a random weeknight, but it was a fabulous time and a good break from the norm!

Tell us about the big moment!

He totally surprised me! I had been staying with my stepmom as she recovered from surgery, so Eric and I had to plan short day-dates to spend time together. He was also going through tough times medically, as he was dealing with pain from numerous herniated discs in his back. That day, we ended up going for a walk at Laumeier Sculpture Park to see how his back would hold up. When he “needed a break”, we ended up stopping at a quiet place on the Art Hike section. As we sat next to each other (down on one knee is out of the question with a broken back!), he asked if I would move in with him. I replied, “Are you serious?!?!” because we had already discussed that I would not move in until we were engaged, so I knew what was coming next! At that point, he got out the ring and asked me to marry him 🙂 We spent some more time at the park, and I was cheesing all day!

What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?

Eric is the type of person that is not quick to trust or let many people get close to him, but once he does let you in, he is fiercely loyal.  I truly admire his dedication to the people and things that he holds dear.  He is also incredibly hard working in both his personal and professional life, and I appreciate his drive to be successful in everything that he does.I also love how positive and good-natured he is.  When I freak out about anything, he is there with a level head and a great attitude, and he always assures me that things are going to be OK. He is my best friend and the first person that I go to with any news in my life, whether it is good or bad.  I am lucky to have him and I can’t wait to marry him!

How do you envision your wedding day?

I’ve never really envisioned a specific theme or plan, but I am excited to have everyone together to celebrate our love with great food, drinks, and fun!

How did you decide on your venue?

One of the things that we like the most about living in St. Louis is the history found all over the city. When we were searching for our venue, we wanted one that would showcase a bit of that history.  We went to Palladium and absolutely loved it! They happened to have a cancellation, so we went for it!! Doing all of this planning in a short time has been challenging (we will end up only having about a 5-month long engagement), but totally worth it.

Are there any special traditions you’ll be incorporating?

We don’t really have any specific traditions, but one of the things I am excited to debut is a locket that contains photos of my father and I.  He passed away 2 1/2 years ago, and I was struggling to find the best way to have a token to carry with me to “walk me down the aisle” since he won’t be there.  It is difficult to think about him not being a part of one of the biggest days of my life, but the locket is a good physical reminder that he is always with me!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?

I am so excited to have all the people that we care about together in the same place to celebrate our love and our union.  We are who we are because of them, and I feel blessed that we both have such amazing people in our lives!

Barrett & Breann: Engaged

This couple is just a month away from tying the knot! Check out their engagement photos and their story below:

Barrett and Bre met in college and started dating almost immediately; they became inseparable and have been together over 7 years!

When did you know they were the one for you?

Barrett: The first night we met… and we’ve been together ever since!

Bre: Day One. I just wanted to hang out with him every day after we met. Since then there’s never been the thought of “maybe” or “what if.” It was just….IT.

What is one of your favorite dates you have been on?

Barrett: Going to Eckert’s to pick apples or blackberries.

Bre: Whenever we go blackberry picking. Barrett always eats way too many blackberries and it’s too funny!

How did he propose? Was it a surprise?

Barrett: We started the night eating at Sam’s Steakhouse where we had our first date. I proposed at Botanical Gardens during the Lantern Festival. The scenery and lights were beautiful and made for great pictures also. I’d say I surprised her!

Bre: July 2, 2015. We went to dinner at Sam’s Steakhouse, where we had our first real date (we’ve been there a few other times too and it’s his grandpa’s restaurant). Then we went to the Botanical Gardens for the Lantern Festival because I had been begging to go. I thought maybe he would propose but didn’t want to get my hopes up! We walked around the whole place before dark and saw the lanterns after the sun set. About 15 minutes before close we said we would do one more trip around the lanterns path. In the area by the lilies, no one was around, and he proposed. It’s a beautiful spot to always have this memory.

What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?

Barrett: She’s silly, doesn’t take anything too seriously, and always encourages me to follow my ambitions.

Bre: His drive and ambition. I always joke that he doesn’t half-ass a thing, he whole-asses eight things.

How do you envision your wedding day?

Barrett: We are having a smaller wedding with the people closest to us, so I’ll say intimate and fun.

Bre: Beautiful and fun! It’s small so it will be great to share such an intimate and special moment with the most important people in our lives.

How did you decide on your venue?

Barrett: We decided on the venue as it fits the size of our wedding and allows more flexibility with food and vendors.

Bre: We liked the flexibility of being able to do whatever we wanted! It will also fit our guests comfortably without making it seem like an even smaller wedding.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?

Barrett: Marrying Bre!

Bre: Our ceremony. Seeing each other for the first time when I walk down the aisle, saying our vows, exchanging rings…everything! Doing it all in front of God, our family, and our friends.
