Adam & Kelly met at college (go Bears!) and have been together for a year and a half. It will be their two-year dating anniversary right after they return from their honeymoon. Read the rest of their sweet love story below!
How did you meet your fiancé?
We met through Christian Campus House at Missouri State University. Our paths often crossed during weekly meetings, small groups, and service events.
When did you know they were the one for you?
Adam: I knew Kelly was the one the first time I saw her. I don’t believe in love at first sight, but her beauty, demeanor, love for Christ, and height certainly caught my attention.
Kelly: I knew Adam was the one when we sat at Firehouse Subs on a “not date” date months before the start of our official relationship. I had just told him that I did not want to go on a date with him, but those thoughts quickly changed as we had hours and hours of effortless conversation. He was so honest and easy to talk to. I knew that I could be myself around him no matter what.
What is one of your favorite dates you have been on?
Adam: I liked one of our first dates the best. We hung out in Springfield on a summer day, went to a local pizza restaurant, then spent the beautiful evening hammocking in the park.
Kelly: My favorite date was actually planned because of a homework assignment. I needed to visit a historical location for class, so I dragged Adam along with me to Wilson’s Creek Battlefield. It was the perfect day- we spent several hours exploring the trails, learning about the war, and getting to know each other better.
How did he propose? Was it a surprise?
Adam proposed on a hot afternoon in June on a bridge at the Grand Basin on Art Hill. It was a place that we enjoyed stopping at to take in the beauty of the park and to have meaningful conversations. Adam arranged for family to join us and to celebrate with a lunch together. The proposal was not a true surprise.. We had worked together to design a custom ring, so I knew it was coming at any time. But the date, time, and location were all surprises!
What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?
Adam: My favorite thing about Kelly is her intelligence. She is smarter than me 😉
Kelly: I love Adam’s ability to make anything fun and exciting. Even the most mundane tasks are full of laughter and joy when he is around.
How do you envision your wedding day?
We envision our wedding day as a day full of joy. We are excited to have all of our friends and family together in one place to celebrate with us.
How did you decide on your venue?
We had a specific date in mind, so availability definitely played a role. We knew we wanted a classic, elegant feel to our day, so we naturally decided on a gorgeous church on Washington University’s campus with a country club reception.
Are there any special or family traditions you’ll be incorporating?
Our family is very important to us, so we are finding several ways to incorporate them. My engagement ring and wedding band include side stones from my grandmother’s wedding ring, so that is a very special family aspect that we are including. We are both from Christian families and have both made the decision to make Jesus the Lord of our lives, so we are including several faith based traditions into our wedding, such as communion and prayer.
What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?
Adam: I am most looking forward to seeing Kelly walk down the aisle. She has done a great job of keeping her dress a secret and I know she will be a radiant, stunning bride.
Kelly: I am most looking forward to getting some time to be with and to talk to Adam after the ceremony. We are choosing not to see each other before, so it will be precious to spend some of our first moments together as husband and wife.
