Jeremy & Maggie: Engaged

These two. These two have been with me from the start. My very first clients and they went all in! We’ve been planning their special day since April 2016 and it’s almost finally here!

I was sitting with Maggie and Jeremy in Picasso’s the other night and they were telling me a bit about when they first met. Let’s just say it involved Jeremy (an HR manager) in a suit…..trying to put a child-size panda hat on. (There may have been a unicorn too.) When I asked how that worked out for him, he just looked at me and said, “Well, we’re getting married, aren’t we?”

Let that be a lesson to all you guys out there…be quirky, be fun, be yourself. It pays off. That was five years ago now, and they’re excited for the next fifty. Read on to find out more about this amazing couple!

How did you meet?

Jeremy: Right around October 21, 2012, I was doing my normal walk around the store and I was told there was a cute girl back from college that I had to go say hi to. As I came up the escalator, there she was. This 5’3″, beautiful blonde who was talking to a customer. Knowing that I had to “play it cool”, I introduced myself, and asked her what her story was. She went into this crazy rambling about school and how she was trying to get credits, and before I knew it, I knew this girl’s whole life story. Little did I know, this was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

MaggieIt was my sophomore year of college and I came back home for my fall break. It was the same as any other weekend working. It was a slow day so I was cleaning and straightening everything up. I looked up and coming up the escalator was this really cute guy, I had never seen him before. My first thought was, “who is he and why is he coming up here?” He was wearing suit and looked like he was an important person, one that I didn’t want to get on the bad side of. Cue the story we told Allyssa at Picasso’s and that was that.

It was actually a weekend trip that we took. It was one of the most memorable times, it was right around the time of Ferguson. We decided to get away for the weekend so went on a trip up to Chicago. Maggie had never been to Chicago save for school trips. We were walking up and down the Magnificent Mile and stumbled upon a concert. A duo named Nico and Vince and now every time one of their songs comes on, I immediately go back to that weekend and all the fun memories that we made.

When did you know they were the one?

Like any relationship we had a rocky start but anytime something would happen that would either be funny or stupid, no matter how small it seemed, he was always the one that I wanted to tell those things to. I knew right then that he was my best friend and the guy that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.

How did he pop the question?

Jeremy: Three and a half years later, I decided it was time. I planned this whole trip to Destin, with her best friend and boyfriend. After the longest 12.5 hour car ride of my life we were finally in Florida. We got settled in, and we went straight for the beach. In my head the whole time I was thinking where should I do it, where should I pop the question. Then came the next question, “when should I do it”. If I do it the first day, then the whole trip becomes about the engagement, but if I do it the last day it might feel like an afterthought. TO ALL THE WOMEN READING THIS. THIS IS THE MOST STRESSFUL TIME OF ANY MAN’S LIFE. We have had to lie to you about where we were when we were buying the ring, where that money just disappeared too, and now we have to lie to you about why we seem off. IT IS STRESSFUL. Anyway. I settled on the 3rd day we were down there, at sunset, of course. I called a local photographer and wanted him to be there to secretly capture the moment. As I woke up Sunday morning I was buzzing. It also just so happened that it was my birthday that day. We spent most of the day at the beach, and then we headed back to the room to get changed for dinner. MY HEART WAS RACING. I told her that I wanted to take some “fancy pictures” on the beach so we needed to leave before her friend. We started the short walk to the beach, and it started to get cold. *gulp* On our way down to the water I dropped a “Ring-Pop” out of my pocket onto the sand. We walked about 20 feet, took some selfies and then decided to go back to the room. On our way back she saw the Ring-Pop and started to laugh. (For about 2 years I had joked about proposing with a Ring-Pop because rings are crazy expensive.) I told her it was a good luck sign and she had to pick it up. As she went to pick up the ring pop, I dropped down to one knee. As she turned around, her eyes started to fill with tears as I said, “Maggie, you are my best friend. I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of my life with anyone else but you. Will you marry me?” Her first response was “Are you serious?!?!” which then was followed with a “Yes”. *sigh of relief* All which the photographer caught on camera. And here we are, months away from getting married.

If you made it all the way through this, I applaud you. I hope you also find that person that just rocks your world. Cause when you do, it’s going to be Legen….wait for it…..dary.

Maggie: It was February of 2016 and time for us to decide whether or not we wanted to go anywhere for Spring Break. It was my best friend’s last spring break before she graduated college and we and always said that we wanted to go to Florida together. It was the third day of vacation and also Jeremy’s Birthday. We were all getting ready for dinner and Jeremy said that he wanted to take a walk on the beach for some cute pictures. I felt bad because the sun was setting and my best friend wasn’t ready for dinner yet but knew she would want to go see the sunset with us. After about 5 minutes she convinced me that it was okay we would all go see the sunset together another night. We went for a stroll on the beach and it was super cold so we cut it short to go back since I was freezing. On the way back I saw a Ring-Pop on the ground and I started to laugh; for about 2 years prior Jeremy always said that I better say yes if he ever asked me with a Ring-Pop and I better be happy too. So naturally I thought it was super funny, I picked it up off the ground and when I turned around there he was down on one knee. The first thing that I said and could think of was “Are you serious??”. I said yes and the rest is history!

What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?

Jeremy: My favorite thing about Maggie is the fact that she never gives up. She has always been very driven and passionate about whatever she is doing. From her school work, to her career, to being the best fiancé ever, she never gives up.

Maggie: My favorite thing about Jeremy is his sense of humor. No matter what the situation is he always tries to see the best in it and make everyone smile and laugh.

How do you envision your wedding day?

Jeremy: I never even thought about getting married before Maggie came along. At the point we met, my parents had been divorced, and it just never looked appealing. Maggie truly changed my mind completely about marriage. What I envision now, is just a big party with all our closest friends and family.

Maggie: For my wedding day, I just want everyone to have fun and be able to relax for the day.

How did you decide on your venue?

Jeremy: I was born and raised in St. Charles so I have always loved this area. We needed a venue big enough that we could fit our massive guest list and something that people would remember.

Maggie: We knew we wanted to get married in a church but didn’t want it to be your typical church. We wanted it to be classic but not standard, we had to find the venue that fit all of our friends and family for a great big party and The Foundry Art Centre is just that!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?

Jeremy: As cheesy as it may be, I can’t wait for those church doors to open and I finally get to see Maggie in her dress. To get to watch her have her slow motion entrance and walk towards me.

Maggie: As weird as it sounds, it’s not only being able to party with all of my friends and family, but to be doing so while my best friend is right next to me.
