Jen & Frank are two of the most caring individuals I’ve met. Jen is superbly organized and has made planning this wedding a breeze! I can’t wait to share their special day that has been so carefully mapped out and perfectly envisioned. Keep scrolling for their story and engagement photos taken by Maison Meredith Photography.
How did you meet?
We met during our second year of law school at Marquette University Law School. Frank would say that we met in Professor Papke’s American Legal History Class, and Jen would say that we met during the Jenkins Honors Moot Court Competition. Regardless, we really became good friends our last year of law school, realized we liked each other, and started dating right before graduation.
How long have you been together?
When Frank propose in April, we had been together for just over 2 years. When we get married in May 2018, it will be a little over 3 years!
Share one of your favorite dates.
There are so many favorite dates. One of our first dates was a walk around Lake Michigan with my dog Chessie. Chess can be a little skiddish, but Frank didn’t know that at the time. He playfully jumped out to greet her but actually scared her. She refused to walk near him or let him pet her the rest of the night. They are best friends now! Frank’s favorite date was probably his surprise 30th birthday. Jen surprised Frank with tickets to the UW v. LSU game at Lambeau field. To everyone’s surprise, the Badgers won! It was a perfect day.
When did you know he/she was the one?
Jen: I knew Frank was the one when we took our first trip together up North. There isn’t too much to do up there, so we spent a lot of time talking, watching movies, paddling around the lake, and visiting places like Lake Superior. All the quiet time together helped me see just how kind, genuine, humble, and generous Frank is.
Frank: When I saw how kindly and lovingly she treated her dog, Chessie.
How did he pop the question?
Oh this is a long story. Poor Frank was so nervous. The short version of it is that Frank tricked Jen into going to the Arboretum, where he got down on one knee and asked, “will you marry me.” It was very sweet.
Was the proposal a surprise?
It was a major surprise. First, it was a Tuesday. Second, it was tax day. Third, Jen was leaving town that weekend. Fourth, we hadn’t talked about or looked at rings together. When Frank started acting a little funny though, Jen though it might be happening (but talked herself out of it because of the above four points).
What is your favorite thing about your fiancé?
Jen: Frank sees the best in everything. Frank helps me try to see things in a more positive and upbeat way.
Frank: She cares about everything, including making sure I’m as good of a person as I can be. She makes me better.
How do you envision your wedding day?
We want the day to be romantic and fun. We cannot wait to dance with everyone. We hired one of the best DJ’s and he’s going to be making it a real party!
How did you decide on your venue?
The McPherson is just so beautiful. Just look at those beams. The hall is gorgeous. We love the woodwork, the stained glass windows, and the patio. It’s perfect.
Are there any special or family traditions you’ll be incorporating?
We’re Catholic, so we’ll be celebrating mass. We are also serving two Wisconsin Beers (a his and hers beer) Summershandy and Hoppalicious as a nod to our Wisconsin family and friends. Finally, we are having pain au chocolate instead of cake because we used to get pain au chocolate on Sundays at a small bakery in Milwaukee. It’s our special treat.
What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?
We can’t wait to have all of our friends and family together in one place. It’s going to be a terrific night of food, fun, and dancing.
Stay tuned for sneak peeks and all the beauty this wedding will bring on May 26th!
